A Waking Slap: Day 3

So four days ago I said that I was going to begin a goal of finishing not only a book, but also a manuscript. It’s been a tough three days to really finishing anything note worthy, but I feel very accomplished with what I have done.

To start I picked a book on day 1. It was a book which I have already been working on and have been very influenced by it lately. It strange that I get influenced by a book that you yourself are writing, but sometimes I forget what my goal for that book is. I had to force myself to sit down and write bits and pieces of an outline on day 1 and some of day 2. Though the outline isn’t finished I feel accomplished that my rough draft for a plot is laid out.

So my first goal was to finally pick a blasted name for the book because if I don’t do that after the first few pages then I spend my time thinking of possible book names instead of the book itself. Then it was off to decide how many pages I was going to push myself to write each day. After much struggle with my mother’s good opinion I made it a good two whole pages on the lovely OpenOffice.org which has been faithful to me since day one. Finally I had to set myself to a guess of how many pages I desired for the book to give myself a time line as to not get off task.

So its day 3 and my small goals are all set and I’m doing my best to fulfill them each and every day the sun comes back up. I thought it would be nifty to give a little outline of my progress so those of you watchers, or lurkers as Stickam calls it, and commenters can see my progress yourself.

Progress:
Day 3 / Day 365
18 pages / goal 400+
Wish me luck!

A Waking Slap

As ‘newbie’ to blogging I’m stilling circling around trying to think about just what I would like to blog about. There are days when my mother and I sit down and talk then suddenly I’ll think: That would be an awesome journey to blog about. There are many things I’m good at that I’m also passionate about, but just how passionate can you get before you go overboard?

Technology. The center of the modern world to be honest. My entire family has some grasp on technology, especially computers. For instance, my brother is fantastic with computer graphic designs and should have gone to college to improve this skill. So it got to me and thoughts began to percolate in my head; why don’t I see what computer skills I have. Well I found them pretty easily when I spoke to my friend about wanting to create a blog. I’ve always had a basic grasp on web design and html code. So I thought I could do a blog about technology and my opinion about things that are related to that subject. In the end I began to feel discontent to my blog and I would be frantic about what technology I would write about next and how many tech blogs are already out there. So I’ve decided to drop the idea of basing things around that.

In truth my new idea for a blog came when I was watching Julie and Julia. She blogs with a count down except she is cooking out of a cook book. Well I have come to conclusion that my time would be best served surrounded by my passion for writing. God, its like second nature to me. I have so many short stories that have never been finished and so many notes to so many books that have yet to fly. So from this day on I’ve decided my time in a blog is best spent keeping myself focused on the book inside my head.

I will, for the next 365 days, (starting tomorrow) work on one book (which I still have to pick) and complete it and the manuscript. It’s hard really because I’m one of those writers who gets an idea.

BING!

Yes that is exactly what I want to write about go! <— That my friends is my brain at the very instant 1 idea comes to me.

Going down a mathematical sidewalk I’m figuring I have ideas almost around 157 times a day… That 6 ideas every hour. Except they don’t happen on a timed schedule, like I can just switch over its more like…

Bing! (Yes an-) Bing! Bing! (oooh anoth-) Bing Bing Bing Bing….. overload… (okay nap!)

So now for the first time in my life! I am going to conquer the Bing!s and finish one book, for better or for worse.

Wish me Good luck!
